On Friday 27th July 2018 two years will have passed since the loss of the academic teacher and chairman of the Committee for the Restoration of the Acropolis Monuments (ESMA), Charalambos Bouras. The Acropolis Restoration Service (YSMA) and the Committee are planning the publication of the volume “CHARALAMBOS BOURAS AND THE RESTORATION OF THE ACROPOLIS MONUMENTS” (in greek), as a tribute to the memory of the man who has greatly contributed since the 1970s to the formation of the modern perceptions of restoration and the training of a new generation of restorers.
The volume contains representative texts of late President of the ESMA, drawn from the archive of ESMA and YSMA: lectures, reports and essays submitted to the Central Archaeological Council for the approval of studies for the restoration of the Acropolis monuments (2000-2016). In these texts the ideas that he had cultivated since the early years of the ESMA for the protection and restoration of the Acropolis monuments are presented, while his contribution to the formation and evolution of the objectives of the interventions for the restoration of ancient monuments can be discerned. An article is also included outlining Charalambos Bouras’ views and positions as a founding member and chairman of the ESMA (1975-2016), through the commentary on extracts with his views on major restoration issues that were discussed by the Committee during its forty-year mandate, as they were expressed in its meetings.
The publication will be presented in an event that will take place in the amphitheater of the Acropolis Museum on Friday 23rd November 2018.
In this event the presentation will take place of the proceedings of the meeting “Special issues of research and implementation in the Acropolis restoration works 2010-2015”, which was held by YSMA and ESMA at the Acropolis Museum on 18-19.11.2016. This publication is also dedicated to the memory of Charalambos Bouras.
